The Destruction of Childhood Classics
Is nothing sacred?? Scary Stories 1, 2 and 3 traumatized me for life, in great part due to the absolutely nightmarish illustrations that Gammell contributed. I STILL see those images in my head decades later; they were truly that effective. Why on earth would anyone ruin the experience for new generations of horror-seekers by replacing the driving creative force of the series with generic Disneyesque drawings? This country's determination to shelter children has become embarrassing. Either let them experience the mind numbing terror or don't let them have the books at all!
Publishers destroy Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark's amazing artwork
Church In State
Gotta love how it's all about "gettin' prayer into schools" and mixing god and state...until it's not Christianity. Then suddenly, NO NO!! RELIGION'S GOT NO PLACE IN GOVERNMENT!! It's only cool if it's OUR god, not YOUR stupid god, duh.
Gingers in the Sun
People on the street need to understand that every unnecessary second I spend in direct sunlight is a health hazard. And they need to stop getting all upset when I violently shove their meandering ass out of the way as I bolt for that next precious patch of shade.
Customer Non-service
I really wish that obnoxious, bitter people wouldn't be allowed to man customer service phones. I just paid a revised medical bill and asked the woman (who I'd gotten into a massive fight with about the same bill last week) if I could now disregard the earlier - much higher - bill.
Her: I can't tell you that.
Me: What do you mean? It's been paid now, so I can throw out this other one since it no longer applies, right?
Her: Well, I can't tell you what to do with your bills, ma'm.
Me: I just need to know if I can ignore this bill and throw out anything that may arrive in the next week in case you sent out another notification beforehand.
Her: Well, I can't tell you to throw out your bills. Some people like to keep them for their records.
Me: Okay, I'm just trying to confirm that my entire balance has been paid and that I can disregard this earlier incorrect bill and any others that might already be in the mail.
*silence*
Me: I mean, there's nothing else I need to do, right? Like if I get another bill that was sent out before today.
*silence*
Me: All right, whatever, thanks.
Her: Have a nice day.
Degeneration of Society
More than a little irritated today after (pointlessly) arguing with some conservative old douchebag on a random youtube video. He was vehemently insisting that women shouldn't grapple with men, and that if they do, they have imbalances, "just like men who do ballet with women."
One of his many brilliant quotes was: "you dont understand a mans' perspective who is twice your age. im from a different world where coed competition was not acceptable. the fact it is now demonstrates the degeneration of society and the lack of respect for each other as diifferent sexes."
Last century much? Guess we should still be in the kitchen making him a sammich.
